They are Great trucks in my opinion. We own 2 of them. One is a 2006 other is a 2007.
They get 6+ mpg. in the winter months and 7+ mpg in warm weather. 3.58 rears with eaton 10 spd. transmission. -
Good trucks........a bit pricey tho........well tht aint a prob since u buyin it already..........ONE MAJOR PROBLEM..........DETROIT(but then im a CAT guy!)

I've been around the 2004 engine, one of them was very good, the 2005 engine is better from all reports. They can run excellent.

I hear they are a bit heavy, or heavier than say, columbia's, e.t.c.

I've been a fan of Western Star for a looooong time. The one I drove was a 4900 EX with the 12.7 liter 500, 13 speed, 3.58 rears. Pulling vans it got over 7mpg fairly easily. From what I hear, the 14 liter 515 doesn't do quite as well, like high 6's. I would also have to agree that they tend to be somewhat heavy. One O/O I know has a LowMax that weighs in at 22,600 full of fuel. If weight is not an issue, I say get it. They are built to last.

that is why I could not own a big truck. most my loads are 78,000-50,000 lbs. I can haul 50,100 lbs legal. if I had a lighter trailer than my all steel 48' by 96" I could haul more. my truck light wt. is about 17,000 -
TYPO , the 78,000 should of been 48,000 lbs

what motor do you run in your 06 and 07 western star?
