If he had the gauge he could have seen it was getting hot while being empty. That would have lightened his foot up pretty good.

Well, I got screwed on parts like folks with new trucks. No parts available for 6-8 weeks, so I called Detroit to check on the status of the engine they're building me, and the 4-6 week estimate I was given has now turned into indefinite. While they said they had all parts 5 weeks ago, they no longer have pistons.
So, I drove the old yard truck to the shop yesterday for a donor. It's no longer in drivable fashion, but i'm moving forward.

Remember when all the salvage/junkyards would advertise on Truck Paper all the used Detroit/Cummins/Caterpillar reman/donor engines up the wazoo? Looks like that surplus supply has dried up!
