Just to show how good of a resource this site is, I picked up my state's CDL book to see what I had to know for the T endorsement. Hell I already knew all the answers just from reading on this site and I wasn't even trying to research it. But, I'm looking for the finer, more advanced points about yankin a tank that only comes from you experienced old hands. I will be driving a baffled tank carrying liquid fertilizer, after that runs out then a hopper with dry fertilizer.
Yes, I already know not to mix it with diesel.![]()

Thats the kind of work I did when I started with this company I'm at. I ran a set of baffled double tankers hauling stuff like 10-34-0 and UN32. Fertilizer generaly weighs around 10 to 11 lbs a gallon but with baffles you don't have much of a front to back surge. Its nothing like pulling a smooth bore. Them baffles really do work. What you do get is side to side surge so you got to be careful on corners and turns. Be real slow and smooth when changing lanes. Don't do what a lot of doorslamers and whatnot do and whip it into the other lane. Baffled tanks really ain't to difficult to run. If you use common sence, you won't have trouble. Your company will tell you about load compatability and all that stuff. Loading and unloading is real simple. For the most part, its a pretty easy job. As far as hoppers go, roll back the tarps to load, Open the doors to unload. Easiest trucking I ever done.

nitetride379x and lowbudget Thank this. -
Biggest issue is running empty on slick road. Tanks are very light and basically Just bounce down the road empty. Leave a lot of room to stop empty, Especially if the trailers are not ABS equipped.

I run a skateboard now, plenty of empty miles these days

That ain't no lie. What a difference it was when ABS came in. Even thou I worked in Las Vegas NV when it rained for the first time of the season it's just like ice. We ran super singles on our trailers and they would break loose real fast. Once the ABS came on you could put your attention elsewhere because they didn't lock anymore.
Tankers are the best job I've ever had and I've pulled flats, vans, doubles, and triples. You've got to know what's behind you AT all times and you must use defensive driving at all costs. Let the other guy be the jerk and you'll be the one that comes home, with a nice paycheck if I can say.socal Thanks this. -
You can say that again.

T endorsement is multi trailers not tanker. N endorsement is tanker. Or X if you have H...
