What is involved to get a CDL reinstated that I gave up 12 years ago due to an injury

Did you have it downgraded or completely lose it?

Depends on the state. Some states reinstate the cdl if you can pass a physical.
Some states won't reinstate it if the DOT physical has been expired more than a year.

FMCSA’s Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations set the baseline for training requirements for entry-level drivers.
- Obtain a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time;
- Upgrade an existing Class B CDL to a Class A CDL; or.
- Obtain a school bus (S), passenger (P), or hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time.

I’m in NY and gave it up as I had a work related injury ( volunteer FD )
Back in 2005. Couple of spine surgeries later and in 2011 I believe it was I gave up my CDL. Had been driving tractor trailers since 1975 so I had my CDL at it’s inception so was grandfathered inD.Tibbitt Thanks this. -

Since you were injured, the state might pay for cdl school through the WIOA Program New York.
