The initial problems of the m13 were with the egr valves connection to the ecm becoming loose. This would cause the egr valve to operate erratically and create high levels of soot. The updated design named the n13 didn't have these problems and used the cummins after treatment system.

There's a million farmers that run them for harvest and if you're just going to have it as a backup truck it'd prolly be alright. Wouldn't buy one for everyday use.

Mine has the aisin. I swore of manuals in pickups along time ago. Last one I owned was an older f350. Had the big square headlights (late 80s early 90s.....I don't recall). It had a 460 with the zf 5 speed, srw, 2 wheeel drive. That was also the last gas truck I've owned. Got it for $1k, it was an old county truck. Great farm truck. Thing was like brand new in/out.

I appreciate the info! It definitely wouldn't be my primary truck. I just don't want to wind up with someone else's headache. It doesn't help that I've intentionally avoided learning anything about newer trucks.

If it were me I'd clean it up and toss it up for sale on Facebook for about 25k. It'd prolly be gone in a week.

I agree, If those were my only choices for whatever reason. That gasser is pretty bad ### for what it is....no doubt. I have no want for any modern Ford diesel. I have absolutely no confidence in them. More than a few folks I knew hoped on the 6.0 bandwagon and regretted it fairly quickly. They've had nothing but problems after the 7.3. I had shy of 400k on my 7.3 when I got rid of it. I don't think I ever did anything to it, not that I could remember anyways. Maybe a glow plug relay or two.....maybe.

Sure they are underpowered. However, there is like a 20 year difference in tech! They are still a work horse though. Heck, now a 20 year old 7.3 with a bazillion miles on it, is selling for what they cost new. That says alot.

I watch a guy on YouTube called South Main Auto. I believe he is in New York and seems like a great guy. He always throws @#&$ at Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge. They seem to have ground issues a lot, as in corrosion at the ground studs and what not.

I've owned one Chrysler vehicle. Was easily the worst truck I've owned. Chevy was #1 with Ford a very close 2nd. Just my personal experience anyway.

MX13 is the Paccar engine isn't it? IH had the MF13 (MaxxForce) and then the A26. The MF13 is rumored to be a stout base engine, their enhanced EGR was the downfall.
