Yes you're crazy, but we all are. You have no experience or clue really what trucking actually entails, you definitely want to go company driver for a year or two at least before trying the owner operator route. It's not all just driving down the road, that's the easy part. Sitting for hours in lines, sitting in a truckstop, that can get old after not very long.
Part of the appeal to me is the removal of stresses of long term projects, getting into crunches due to no fault of my own (thanks management), etc. I don't care about time spent, hell what else do I have to do. Read a book, listen to a podcast, take a nap, I can find things to do if I have to wait around at a shipper or whatever. Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has grown sick of the engineering gig. It's a shame. I like technology itself, and am rather into mechanics, but working for day in and out on projects I don't care about, blah.
