Power only. O/o Is there market?

Lot's of intermodal companies are power only. I did okay, now that most RR cans have tubeless tires, it's actually not a bad job. Mostly regional, and not overly picky on the truck. I worked out of Chicago, but they're pretty much all the same.

 

I’m not in that arena but would assume that PO is and will be a bigger thing with the Amazon type companies that are forever growing

 

I currently do power only. You’ve really just got to work with a company that is aggressive in their negotiations. I took home 4k after all cost last week maxing out my clock completely. You can make more with your own trailer easily, but I’m familiar and comfortable with my regional roads and weather. I offset my income with stocks though, so it makes me pretty neutral to the negatives of intermodal. And yes, they’ve been rolling out all tubeless radials.

Bennett brokers out a lot of power only. So does Landstar. Get yourself a pintle hitch, its amazing how well small generators and utility trailers pay.

 

The PO market is booming. I predicted this when it became apparent a big chunk of truck capacity vanished off the market in the early months of the plandemic. It actually took longer than I expected. Many large shippers have their own fleets of trailers. As the larger carriers they usually contract with have faltered with staffing shortages, more of these trailer moves are appearing on the spot market. One outfit I randomly signed with on a one-off load started sending me their load lists. Nearly all of it is long haul power only team runs, where they connect 5-10 segments and contract the truck from end to end, for about a week or so.

It's an emerging new variant of the LTL model, just with the truck itself, versus a single trailer/route with multiple partials. Going by your stock market related posts, I'm surprised you didn't catch this on any of the trade publications.

 

Just make sure to read the trailer use agreements completely and carefully. There are some that make YOU responsible for anything that goes wrong with the trailer while it's in your possession. Some even make the decision of fault up to THEIR sole discretion. Make sure you understand the terms before you sign the agreement.

 

Don't forget the Interchange insurance either.

 

With all the shenanigans up north, drivers arrested, insurance cancelled, bank accounts frozen, tractors being towed away, I'd have to think a person with their own tractor would be like a rooster in a hen house. Sure, I'll pull your wagon, cash only, no questions asked,,now, where did I put my old "chain drive" wallet?

 

That's who I would check with. They do a lot of bigger equipment driveaway and towaway stuff besides RVs. Delivering new semi-trailers to dealerships and stuff like that. Probably cake work as long as you're careful with the unit you're pulling as some others have touched on. There is a little higher liability there delivering new trailers that are expected to still be new looking when they show up. It won't pay as well as running freight with your own trailer but I assume there are guys out there that make enough to be happy.
