Chicken lights on KWs/ Petes

    I did the same thing last year but replaced them with LEDs that have a gasket around the lens and individually grounded via one of the screws. I rewired it all and used stainless fasteners with all weather shrink connections. Kept the rectangle style since I find them more period correct for an early 90s conventional.

    I knew what you were talking about. We just don't agree on them. Your choice of replacement has a nice retro look as well. I like those bee hive/melon lenses. I use red ones on my trailer markers on the end.

    Scotch locks should be illegal.. those POS have caused more headaches than 7 wives
    I'am currently rewiring the light strips under the cab & sleeper on a truck of mine also replacing the lights with LEDs I just bought some 2 into 1 wire crimp connectors that have heat shrink and some other material that forms around the 2 wires that go into 1 side of the connector.. they were alittle pricey..1.50 each but I like the way they seal.. I guess time will tell

    You route everything right and protect it all from abrasive wear and you’ll thank yourself for spending the extra money on those connectors. Personally, I'm tired of constantly fixing my previous crap jobs. My test light is by far my most used tool I own this time of year. Little by little I'm replacing all the shabby work I did over the last couple years.

    Even the cheap heat shrink crush connectors from Harbor Freight work pretty good if a good set of crimpers are used. The cheap ones I used in the past put a pinhole in the insulation when I crimped. Then when the Winter rolled around salt water would get inside and corrode it all away. Hair pulling madness ensued.

    Now, I've learned the error of my ways!

    I kinda like to do wiring.. Like you I learned the hard way I was kinda pissed when I ordered this stuff the other day because I bought 100 of those connectors and 500' of 3/8 Corrugated plastic conduit and it was about 200. with the shipping ..forgive me if you have seen this pic before because I've posted it in another thread but this is just part of the wires I cut out of the 359 project truck I rewired last summer this is just what I cut out of the dash and engine compartment that the previous owners had cobbed up I put all new wiring in the cab and built my own new harness for the headlights& turn signals with a junction box and relays for each circuit of the lights.. it took the better part of 400 hrs and 7 or 8 bottles of Crown Royal 20210627_122102.jpg 20210626_082822.jpg

    Mine too are those crappy blue connectors. But I hope those weren't factory installed, but some "modifications" added later on

    I have never known Paccar to use those junk scotch lock connectors.. that was done by some other tard..

    I'm getting ready to build an entire harness for my taillights with weatherpack connectors to replace the KW ones that aren't waterproof. That's a lot of wiring for did, my friend. Don't think I would have faired so well after all the Crown though.
