I’m only getting 6 mpg at 65 mph 1200 rpm. My truck is geared at 2.85. Any ideas? The only time I get 7 mpg or above is at 1000 rpm 58 mph.

What was it before? Any major changes done before the drop?

Sorry about the slow response. It’s a 2001 53’ Great Dane, usually around 25k pounds.

I bought the truck in December from premier truck group. I know it’s governed at 75, do you think this has anything to do with it? Also, if I’m running at 58/ 1000 rpm’s I get anywhere from 7.6-9.1 mpg depending on terrain.

    baha Thanks this.

Many factors actually. Weight your carrying. Cold weather. Trucks regening if like crazy going down the road. Improper inflated tires. Headwind. Drag on the wheels. Maybe even your driving habits.

you have to eliminate that list to see what the issue is.

Weight is usually around 25k range and it’s not doing a regen my soot levels are in the very low range. I can check all the psi in the tires, would that lead to a 1.5-2 mpg drop though? What do you mean by drag on wheels?

Governed at 75 has nothing to due with it if you're not running it there all the time.

Check the basics, no boost leaks anywhere. Check for black soot all around the manifold/turbo. Pressure check CAC (charge air cooler) if you can. A boost leak will make a high pitched squealing noise.

Check engine light on, any codes?

Also with the winter blend fuel it's down about roughly .5-.75 maybe even a hair more

No codes or unusual noises. Everything seems fine except the mpg drops off a lot once I’m over 1000 rpms

I get 6.5-7mpg but usually weigh in around 73-80k gross.
