Finding anything but OTR, and probably only then with the big trainer companies, is practically impossible in your area. There are almost zero driving jobs around the Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba county area, and the odds of a new driver getting anything local are astronomical. You may get lucky and find a straight truck job, but those jobs are rare also. Many local driving jobs are paying $8-$10 hr for experienced drivers.
Not trying to be a pessimist, but look at the unemployment numbers in the three county area. It seems like every other person that gets laid off decides they want to drive a truck, bringing more drivers into an area that is shedding driving jobs like a dog sheds hair.
It is not impossible, but don't let someone sell you a bill of goods about all the local jobs.
There are three driving jobs on the ESC site for those three counties. They all require heavy lifting and multiple stops. The only one that shows pay is $12.39 hr, and they want 2 years experience, no exceptions, and one of the others wants 5 years.

TerryG Please follow the advice of the "old hands" on this site. Research, research, and research, then ask all your questions. I am from the RDU area, and did my one year wonder stint with one of the well known training companies. I got through it, but it was trials and tribulations to say the least. Your most important assets will be your determination and commitment. It is not easy starting out anywhere.
Good luck on your quest.Baack and kickin chicken Thank this. -
