Unusual question.

Casual, can be from 1 day to 1 week/mo, but need continous employment. Means during those 4-5 mos. off, need to drive 1 day/mo min (some co.s) or drive local runs if near a terminal & big city.

 

I would say if you are upfront with the company you apply with it won't be a problem. Explain why etc, but most of all when you are working make sure you do a good job and log legal (that had to come from me, right?) and no accidents etc and they will hire you back, some may even give you the original hire date. The best thing is to get one year in to take time off like that and have your doctor give you a family or medical leave!
I think that is something you can let happen with the right company

 

you can probably try a place like "FedEx Ground". that division is owner-operators and company drivers. apply at your location...........

 

I believe you'll have to work full time for a year or two and then step in and out of the same company over and over. That opinion is based upon discussions with my employer as well as total Transportation of Mississippi, who tells me they have several "seasonal hires"...

BTW....you may be like me; a sailor. I sold off my O'Day 322 (had it for 10 years) and will be afoot for a while. Then in 2010 I'm going to buy a Cape Dory 25D.....any of this make sense to you?

 

I would say look into your area expediters thats usually employment legth anyways

 

You could always run the "ice" roads in northern canada and U.S.A. that is just about the time frame they are run on. Bring your parka!!! LOL
