Pimping my freight to them and putting $2.50/mi or so in my jeans for a couple of phone calls is what I should be doing. Doesn’t pay to have a conscience in this business.

Look for a truck with an N14 Cummins. My dad is running a 359 with an N14 we swapped in it that has no problem running 7mpg pulling a flatbed. The 12.7 Detroit are supposed to be just about as good on fuel.

I get 6.5-8mpg in my old Volvo with tuned 550hp Detroit and I always drive 65-70mph speed limit permitting.
I am pretty sure it would be 8.5 mpg if I slowed down to 62

don’t be fooled, them guys just run a truck to be able to finance things legally. They got that drug money stacked, just need a truck for taxes and legitimacy

1 dollar a mile no problem, just need to cover fuel

What’s your specs on the Volvo? Rears and trans please. I want this formula for success. Also do you run lo pro 22.5 tires?

I’ve got this prostar with a thirsty Cummins nearly 20years newer and can barely scratch 7 mpg on a good day. I drive with my eye on that fuel meter all day and give her just the right throttle and that’s all I can manage. I always wanted a 60 series, I even bought the manual so I could wrench on it but fate intervened. Every t600 (3) I’ve ever gone to potentially purchase had abundant rust blisters on the frame and rear ends where the air suspension mounts. At this point I’m more so looking for a blown motor with a decent frame and would prefer to put my own engine in it and go through the rest of it so I know what I’m getting into.

I see you’re a man with some gumption when it comes to getting paid what you’re worth and I like that. I’m beginning to gain some of that shrewd business sense myself. What exactly do you haul? If you don’t mind me asking. I’ve been thinking about trading my box in for a skateboard since spring time has arrived and rates are going badly for van right now.

3.58 rears with 10 speed. I think the ideal specs for regular over the road freight, would be 3.36 or 3.42 rears with a 13 speed. My other old Volvo has those specs with N14 engine and it's way better for driveability, especially in the mountains.
I am really not a fan of 10 speed

I think the problem you will find is, while you may get top dollar for your truck, you will be paying top dollar for another truck. Have you looked at the prices of used trucks? Most of the older pre emissions trucks don't get good fuel mileage. The Detroit 12.7 is an exception.

    Rideandrepair and Phantom307 Thank this.
