Any of you guys have any pro tips on how to handle the break in period of these newer trucks? Some have said to give her hell with the first 25-50k miles, some say drive it as you would normally. ISX Productivity Series motor with 565/1850, 18 speed Eaton tied to 3.36 rears on 22.5 LP tires. We run out of WA state so I figured all these weekly hill climbs and driving like I normally would, would be break in enough.
Truck will be in my hands sometime next week, what are some things I should do right out the gate? Besides, you know.. adding a stripper pole to the sleeper. lol

Diesel Dave and OhNoTerry Thank this. -
According to the spread sheets, that puts me around 1450 rpm on top gear at 67ish mph. Right where I wanted to be.

I will for sure check him out, I’ve heard his name come up a lot in regards to Cummins. This was my first spec so I’ll keep you guys updated on if I’m fond of the cruising gear in relationship to speed and RPM.Oxbow Thanks this.

On paper the X15 is a low rpm engine.
-
That’s why you don’t abuse them new.
For the first week on a new engine I don’t go over 60, set cruise and ride, all seals gaskets are new and stiff.
Next week go to 65.
Then whatever you want, but I get best mpg at 66 with3.36 rears. -
Hated the 3.36/18 speed combo I drove. It was an X15 565/1850 in a W9. 18th gear was worthless cause it died under 1500 rpms. Even on the Ohio turnpike I was downshifting
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Yeah, that's something my salesmen was pretty heavily versed in. Said Cummins is aiming for lower RPM cruise motors. Granted he is a salesman, but I for sure as hell wasn't going for the Paccar MX motor. lol
