It’s worth noting that not all LTL carriers make linehaul drivers work the dock. And out of the ones that do, none of them take it to the extremes that XPO does.
We work the dock at FedEx Freight, but it’s only mandatory on runs under 400 miles. And a 399 mile run likely wouldn’t be more than 2 hours on the dock. My bid right now is a little over 500 miles and not only do I not work the dock, I get paid delay time if I’m not dispatched by the time I’m done with my break.
My first night doing LH and at the Fridley FAC....

Farva Thanks this.

From my understanding, since Fridley FAC is not heated, all of the XPO dock workers left (and this happens each year)...then they come back when it starts to warm up. That's great that my dock time may lessen up in a month or so, but when it's -25 below out and/or blizzard on that dock, that's going to have me rethinking my life's choices for sure.
Digman943 and Old_n_gray Thank this. -
Insulted coverall should help.

Just dress for it. Been on Linehaul over 20 years now. Xmp has had its share of issues lately.
Farva Thanks this. -
Magnum doesn't require any LTL drivers to work the dock at all.
EDIT: We also have a heated dock in Coon Rapids, 2 miles from XPO Fridley! Not sure on your situation but if you're at all interested I can give you more details. -
This is what is keeping me from going to Linehaul .... Being a traveling dock worker
