Regarding the per diem, is Central really paying them only 8 cent a mile? The per diem as of Oct is $59.00 a day. If you work half that day, it of course is half. If you only get 8 cents per mile you are still allowed the rest for your taxes and you have to make sure central is putting what they give you on your W2 form. Keep the records this is a great tax deduction. BTW Before Oct. the per diem was $54.00 a day, per driver. You see when you are on docks etc, you are not getting any per diem, but as long as you are out on the road working you are allowed $59.00 per day, per diem is per day of work not per mile of work.

oh I forgot, On your taxes you claim 100 percent of per diem. Just remember it is by the days of work, and you only get half if a half day. There are many truck driving tax people that know the industry and laws you can check with, like ATBS.

Just be sure you understand that per diem !!! It is GREAT, for the company.......
-
Per Diem should have a positive affect on your taxes. You are allowed to claim $54.00 a day from Jan 09- Sept. 09. Starting in Oct 09 per diem went up to $59.00 a day per driver. The federal gov. allows you to deduct this amount for everyday you are out working. Now if you started or ended one of those days for time off as half a day, then you are only allowed to claim half the per diem. If you are being paid by the company some of this per diem by miles, the company has to post this on your w2. You keep your records by your log book, and figure what you are owed in total, subtract what central paid you, and this is still what you are allowed to claim.

This is a great post. When a company pays part of the per diem they are really screwing the driver.
