An good trucker will always have a roller dog between the steering wheel and his face.

 

I'd hate to know how loud my truck is then.

 

Thank god all the flip flip wearing plastic truck crew will not have to worry about this since they all drive with headphones jammed in their ears.

 

I suppose it is a different era, but we started at a time when sound, smell, and feel was the key for trouble shooting potential problems. It was just necessary to try and stay ahead of the curve, and still is for me running 33 year old trucks.

 

OP. You should report you finding to a Retired LH ...CF driver that use to drive those single axle .White/ Frightliner cabovers that had the 318 Detroit with air starters .. then see what they tell you after they say... can you speak up Buttercup

Can’t say I don’t use sunglasses either.

 

At 70 years of age you'll wish you had used some type of hearing protection if you don't.
May be the least of my problems at that point.
But once it's gone it's gone.
In addition to normal age related hearing loss I am tested annually and while I use plugs and muffs everywhere I still suffer moderate low frequency loss. A hazard of my work.
My biggest concern is not being able to enjoy music in the latter years, as opposed to not hearing the Mrs..lol
That and repeating the phrase "what" every time someone speaks.
