Got back in the truck Monday morning after a weekend with the kids. Load assignment: Pick up a trailer off the yard, haul it to Grand Forks, ND. It's full of Hill-Phoenix stuff and it's going to a Target in Grand Forks.

Time was kinda tight on the load when I got it, and it was not helped by the fact that the trailer was completely missing a license plate. Dutifully reported it to safety, and lo and behold the replacement tag for the trailer was already in the trailer shop. So I got that taken care of and hit the road.

Woke up this morning at the Petro in Perrysburg, OH. Began proceeding in a North Dakota-ish direction. Time was still tight. My target was the Petro in Clearwater, MN, which was (according to my GPS) 11hr 31min away from the Petro in Perrysburg. I knew I'd shave off those 31 minutes over the course of the day, and as long as I made it to Clearwater by 7:00pm Richmond time, I'd be able to make on-time delivery to Grand Forks.

Couple hours into my drive, I get a text from my DM, letting me know that they're gonna swap the load off of me, and asking how far I thought I would be able to make it today.

    o.o

I called him up, asked why they wanted to swap the load. He said "They don't think you're gonna make on-time delivery."

    I said "It'll get there on-time."

At which point he yelled over his shoulder to someone else and said "He says he'll make it on time. And I trust him."

I'm still on the load. Got here to Clearwater at 6:50pm Richmond time. Will probably be 15-20 minutes early for my delivery tomorrow.

He’s probably like me, the type that questions whether or not “safe driving” awards are actually participation trophies. After all, isn’t driving the truck without wrecking it what you’re supposed to do in the first place?

I always thought so. Along with being congenial and pleasant with customers, especially one like I had today. I told my wife this Hill delivery had to be the nicest, friendliest easy to work with folks I’ve ever encountered in the 9 years delivering these things. Though it was a nice gesture on the customer to make the effort to call in, I would of appreciated it more if the company threw in a $50 bill next Friday.

It’s called simple math, something that eludes the planning department.

Get to Phoenix to get the truck and find out the bill hadn't been paid yet but they let me take the truck anyway thankfully. Check things out and the fridge smelled like something died in it and like a hundred or so maggot eggs all over in the freezer and door pockets and shelves.....going to have to get some latex gloves and bleach and baking soda to clean and deodorize this out....got this weird squeaking noise when drive down the road too and CB antennas aren't good either....might see if I can swap into something newer in WM being there was a few 21 and 22 Volvo's sitting there last I was there. But I made it and putting in for three days breakdown pay.

@MACK E-6, I see the post I made using my buddies last name was corrected. Thank you. I wasn’t sure that was allowed. I figured if it wasn’t, one of the Mods would handle it.

Knowing my friend like I do, him spending 11 of his 20 years in the Navy floating around under water on a submarine, and now driving a truck the last 24 years, he could care less if his last name is used. But, rules are rules, and I get it. Again, sorry for the mistake.

    Not a problem.

Your friend may not mind but most other people would, so I try to help make sure peoples’ privacy is protected.

    jarhead0311 and JohnBoy Thank this.
