Hi fellow Truckers. I just graduated from United Truck Driving School in San Diego, CA. Wondering if I should go local or OTR any recommendations? I recently got an approval letter from Melton. I applied to them because seems like a good starter company any thoughts is appreciated thanks!

Melton is actually a pretty good choice--assuming you really do wanna do flatbed work.
Get ready to see most (if not all) of the US, and also parts of Canada.
Melton will definitely move you around.

Agree, Melton is a good choice.
OTR is good also, unless a driver has some type of family commitment that warrants otherwise.
My whole career was OTR except for maybe 3 or 4 months of local. That local work was the worst experience in my career. Fighting traffic was not worth it.Vision Thanks this. -
Living in S.D. could present a problem getting home, depending on your co. FYI. Melton is a decent co.

I guess it’s Melton. I hear nothing but good things. I hear once you get Flatbed experience anyone will take you. I’m actually single and no children so I have to commitments. Also wanted to do flatbed because I wanted to be active and not sedentary. Melton said I’ll probably won’t see home time at 3-4 weeks at a time and I’m ok with that. I actually have family in Oklahoma and Alabama so maybe I can just home time there.
on another note. If I work a class B job locally then maybe later I want to work OTR class A will it be hard to get hired on?
Thanks For your guys input much appreciated!Chinatown Thanks this. -
Local Cl "B" won't count for anything. you would still start from scratch for Cl "A"

Stay local.
San Diego is beautiful. -
You can always do local if you tire of travelling the USA.

Stay away from Class-B. You can always do that later.Orx Thanks this.
