    hey everybody,
we got a 2016 yard goat with a cummins isb 6.7, came in for a def metering module code that was coming up as shorted or open circuit, traced all my lines from the ecu to the module and found continuity between the 5v power line and ground, which indicated a short somewhere in the harness, since i wasn't sure where in the harness it was and it would be a pain in the ### to find, i decided to run my own power and ground from the ecu to the module, two grounds and a power, i left the communication lines alone, i attached the diagram and what's been replaced on it so y'all have a better understanding too. once i had everything ran i, i checked resistance and continuity and everything looked perfect, upon restarting the unit, it immediately had the check engine and stop engine light on, i scanned the system and was coming up for even more codes related to short circuitry, see attached, i've rechecked my connections and everything looks good, i have no idea what it could be since the components have issues are unrelated to each other and only joined up at the ecu which is where im assuming the issue is. Only other thing I’ve noticed is every component that is shorted high runs on 5v, internal ecu resistor issue?common ground or power? internal ecu fault? programming issue? bad harness? any help appreciated, thanks gt16 codes.PNG DEF.png

Please share your ESN and printouts of your original faults only.

Did you have your circuits Completely isolated or disconnected when you were measuring for continuity to ground? Are you referring to a chassis ground or harness ground?

I suspect your original reading was a resistance measurement backfeeding thru the ECM and not really a short to ground.

    wtokhi Thanks this.

ECU was removed and def module was disconnected when I found ground with power, I’m referring to a harness ground, I don’t have the original printout but it was def metering module short and that’s it and a protection derate, now that I think about it it might be an internal ecu issue sending higher voltage what do u think

Not having the original code, I would put back the wiring to factory. See what is active and start over.

You may have bypassed something on the OEM side not covered on the generic schematic. Double check your pin locations on both connectors and count out the pins again. I suspect you have something mis-wired since it’s broken worse after you ran your overlay wires.

    spsauerland and wtokhi Thank this.

I don’t think I bypassed anything, my pin locations were fine because I checked continuity from the def module connector pins to the ecu connector pins before I made any cuts to make sure it was the right line, all I did was cut the wires after the pins on each side (ecu to def module) and run my own wires in between.

OK…. Do you have the OEM schematics to know that there is no splices between A and B on the circuits you overlayed?

Get me your original fault code so we can start over and find the original problem.
