i will take any and all info on roehl, especially ther flatbed division. i'm considering them and maverick. i drove and trained for PGT for 2 years before taking a job with a carquest dist. center about 6 months ago. this job is okey but i hate it. i drive around s.c. to stores and deliver at night, between 7-10 stores a night and i hate it. any info on either company would be greatly appriciated.

Just back from another week out with Roehl. Not a good week at all,but the what the heck, its that time of the year.started out with a 400 mi.run, then about 5 more short runs to complete the week.mostly Wis. and Ill freight.so to all you new drivers starting out now you have to realize this is a very slow time of the year for freight. Then along about the first of March things will pick up.I am on the 7 on 7 off program with Roehl, and if my first trip isnt at least 1000 miles I am playing catchup all week. But like I said for the first couple months of the year,ya pretty much gotta take whatcha get.Thats the way it is with all companies. To all you newbies starting out,you will get more valuable info on this sight than from the recruiters.:smt023

That is not my experience with Roehl. My first month out I drove around 8000 miles. Got home and looked at my pay stub. They shorted me .02 cents a mile because someone in the office made a "clerical" error. I was listed in a regional fleet that they don't even have. Anyway, I was told that I would get back pay for the difference. Dispatch told me the next week that one of the "Roehl family in charge of payroll" did not back pay drivers for any reason. Bad experience number 1.

Finally got out on my own. First week miles around 1400. Can't live on that.
Talk to dispatch and tell them that I was promised at least 2200 miles per week, on average. I had been waiting 18 hours for 6 dispatches in a 7 day period. (Tells you a little about the length of haul, doesn't it?) I was told that they hadn't done right by me and that it would improve. Well, the next week I got 2800 miles, followed by 1300, 1800, and 1600 the following three weeks. I have found that I will have one good week per month and then three substandard weeks that follow. The only positive thing that I can say about Roehl is that they will not allow you to cheat your logbook.
Other than that, I have been very, very disappointed in the promises made versus the reality of this company. They may be better than some, but I am ready to try something else. Oh, by the way, I have been with them for over 7 months, and these experiences are not unique, but rather week to week, month to month. As far as their "five star pay package" , watch your dispatched miles versus your odometer and find out the facts. I find the mileage to be anywhere from 10 to 30 percent low, depending on the length of dispatch. Also, mileage pay is of little value without the miles. Like I said earlier, if what they promised had not been mentioned or my expectations had not been elevated, I would have accepted them as just another trucking company and moved on. But they claim to be different. They may be, just not much different!

While I'm still here, let me say that I stay out 12-14 days at at time. I have never had a late pickup or delivery, and no accidents. Nothing. I have yet to earn a bonus of any kind, although I did get a 25.00 Christmas check. Attainable bonuses may be a fact of life for the rest of the employees, but I haven't figure out how to get one. Maybe I should be late for deliveries and have an accident. Don't ask anyone for advise there because most of the dispatchers are newer than I am and they don't know either. And the Roehl family is too busy counting the money they save by delivering freight with cheap drivers. Yes, I am disgruntled. But I am hurt that we, as new people entering a new "career", if you can call it that, are so misinformed and lied to that we make poor decisions and we have to pay for them for a year or more or WE have to pay for the priveledge they provided at their government subsidised RDTC driver school. Yes, there is much, much more, or less, to Roehl than what is advertised. I still drive for them, but I am not a happy employee. Just another lingering driver looking for a way out.

I think I may be glad I didnt get approved by Roehl last month when things were looking good to get hired by Roehl, over an 8 year old misdemeanor ,even the presidents clinton and bush have done worse then that ,however I have landed on my feet with a smaller company that pays practical miles ,sort of a lower cpm at 26 to start but I can live anywhere in the usa which you cant with Roehl and they want me warts and all ,there giving me a chance and I am giving them one as well, although maybe we are in the wrong forum cause they Roehl seem to have fallen from grace with some posters ,imagine that:laughing3:

Homeboy, Seems like that is the way trucking is these days. I got a book called "Truth about Trucking" online here at The Truckers Report. It was very interesting. It was only 10 bucks and worth it. I have been trying to talk myself into going back to driving truck for a couple years now. The book really has some very interesting points. Like driver shortage, and turn over. It is just the way trucking is. The more I learn about the BS that goes along with trucking less I want to do it. I loved the job just hate the BS that goes with it. I do beleive there are good companies out there and from what I have read Roehl is one of the better ones. Good luck to you

I don't mind the lifestyle as much as I hate being lied to. If we put all of these cards on the table then I would have known what game we were playing. I run as hard as the law allows and am willing to pay the dues. I am so sorry that Roehl is considered one of the good companies, because that means the others are horrid. It may be one of the better ones to some, but it will never be considered good by my standards. I am so sorry for those who go there misinformed and really believe that this is a solid company. They are not what they are advertised to be.

it seems as if evry time you think you have found a good company, somebody trashes it. is it really worth getting into trucking? i used to be excited about it, but i am beginning to have second thoughts.

Same here CDR. I am older and was looking forward to going with a company like Roehl. I like the thought of 7 on 7 off. I am getting to where I don't need to make as much money and a week on a week off looked good. But I am not going to live with the BS you truckers have to put up with. Seems like there are not any good companies anymore.
