hi my name is jerry, im starting a drivers solution school in indiana in march. i was wondering how the school is, what to expect upon arrival, and what to expect when finished. i read somewhere on here i'll be in indiana for 3 weeks, home a week and gone 4 weeks between school and otr training, does this sound right. i was also told by my recruiter that when im finished i will be employed through usa truck. can anybody who worked for them or still works for them tell me a little about the company, as far as what to expect in the first couple of months with miles, home time, and pay. iv'e been reading alot about different companys, some good some bad. but if anyone can tell me alittle about usa truck and what to expect from the 1st year of being a new otr driver i would greatly appriciate it. thanks in advance
well i took a virtual tour of a usa truck, it looks like it might be doable. my only concern right now is, is it going to be worth it in the long run. iv'e been in a bodyshop for 18 years now, but always wanted to drive truck as a little kid. nows my chance but i'm starting to wonder if it's going to be worth it or should i stay with the same crapy pay i have now.i see no advancement at my current job, but trucking always seemed to have a great future, i mean thats how it was back then. not to sure now....... thanks

I just recently attended C1 (Driver Solutions) because I needed a refresher course to get back behing the wheel. I would say they are average at best.
Week 1 - Classroom, permits and Indiana License (even though I had a CDL, I had to sit in on this stuff too)
Week 2 Range (Backing) and road driving
Week 3 road and range as needed followed by testing. (I tested out at week two, per C1 I had to be there two weeks)
Normally, You would test out for C1 (Driver Solutions) and then take the test with a state CDL Examiner.
Test: Very Extensive Pre-Trip, three backing exercises (Straight line, offset & parallel) and a road test.
Classroom: Don't expect much. Minimum instruction - Just enough to get you through.
Range/Street: Varies depending on instructor.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND finding another way to attend CDL School. (Cash, personal loan, WIA)
If USA sponcers you you'll be on the hook to them for $6000+ plus interest if you don't work for them for one year. (Cash price of the school $3000)
Keep in mind it is in USA's best interest if you don't make it a year (They make money off of you)
If you go to school (paying cash, WIA, etc) You will have more oppurtunies for employment, won't be stuck with USA, and can most likely find a better paying training company.
Be shure to check out the Forum - you'll find enough valuable info to occupy you for quite some time.

I should also note that I have no experience with USA other than what I saw at school and have no idea how they operate beyond that. I would check out the USA thread for that information.
