how to raise the fifth wheel

are your air bags inflating?

 

Get model # off of fith wheel... in model # will be your current stand height... go to dealer or parts house that sell your brand fith wheel and order taller stands... there are usually many differnt height choices.... changing them out is not that hard, also makes the perfect time to rebuild your pivits if the need it.... I guessing your tractor was set up to pull high cube trailers and now your pullin trailers with tall suspensions and possibly tall rubber? not a hard fix....

 

u must check the fifth wheel height ....bags inflated, fifth wheel level like when under a trailer ...height should be 48" max to the ground or you won't be able to haul a van ... then you can figure how much to raise it .... any good welder should be able to do it for a couple of hundred bucks

 

yep 48" would be max for a van, but ive had a few taller than that, but only ever pulled dumps, flats and tanks.... its not that bad of a "do it yourself job" if its a slider the only welding needed would be for the stops at the back... gotta cut the welds and remove the bolt that holds it them in place (one each side), after reasembly they would need rewelded but that shouldn't cost to much for a couple of beads to be laid down ... If it is a fixed wheel then no welding at all, i would just torch the old bolts off and replace with new grade 8s course they should be replaced any how... I like to do as much as i can myself, but its definitly easier to have a shop do it for ya...BTW.. wasn't tryin to down play your advice 112 (cause it was right on) just sayin what i know from my own adventures...
