Whatever works for you is good .
this guy is a meticulous driver , his RGN is seven inches longer than the Tennessee kingpin to back bumper allowed ,
he gets the permit , hangs the banners and strobe lights and stops and walks in the permit at their scales .
then stops at the exit before the Georgia scale and removes them , because Georgia doesn’t have a kingpin length rule , and in Georgia you’re not supposed to have the banner or blinky lights if you’re not oversize .
Georgia doesn’t enforce the not having a banner if you’re not oversize because I see lots and lots of empty flatbeds with the banners still on when I pass through Georgia , but this guy works hard to play by the rules and not attract any undue attention from the DOT
they are not likely to care if you stop and walk in a permit , but they just might care if they see a truck blow by that has banners and blinky lights and they think that truck should have stopped and walked in the permit .
a lot of officers will walk out to your truck , especially if they are bored or getting sleepy, so half the time you don’t have to even get out .
The only thing I know that scales don’t like about oversize if you have several truck traveling together in a convoy , like a dismantled crane or something , they don’t want all of them arriving at the same time , since it takes up their entire parking lot .
and every state is different , if you are overweight , some states want you to get on their scale , and some don’t want you on their scale , they just want you to stop and walk it in .
Oversized & Weigh Stations giving you a green light.
