If this is the wrong forum, I'm sorry...we have a team out on the road pulling time sensitive freight...we went so far as to lease trucks from Penske to avoid problems on the road with our older trucks. So this one truck is blowing heat in the back of the cab, but up front it's cold. We are hoping to figure this one out without a stop for a lengthy service.
    Thanks in advance.

If you tell the group what kind of truck it is, you will get better advice.

Some drivers on older trucks used to put shut off valves on the lines to the heater core, but I don't think this would be on a rental truck. It may be a bad sensor for the thermostat.

Hit the proper dealership or Penske shop and purchase or request a "Winter Front",the trucks now days likely need retro-fitted for proper installation which will involve downtime and added expenses.

    So . . . . . . . ..
    Find a WalMart
Drive around back and find a cardboard box or piece of card board (slip sheet)large enough to cover the front grill area.

Flip the hood with the motor running, let the "fan draw" suck the cardboard to the radiator, then roll.

Watch the temp gauge,if it starts to rise when rolling on flat ground
to the point of engaging the fan then stop and trim off a few inch's from the top edge.

Once you get the temp to hold decent you can then secure the cardboard
    inside the grill.

Yes,shut the truck off to help get the cardboard off for trimming.

If they have heat in the bunk area and not the front, I don't think this will help.

Yes, there is only heat in the bunk area. It looks like we may have to get a loaner from Penske while this is repaired, because it is winter out there. Time is money.
This particular truck is an '06 Freightliner Classic.
    Thank you...
(I am not a truck driver, my husband IS, and we have a small company)

    if you think so . . . . . . :biggrin_2556:
Depending on the unit there is also a chance the front water is shut off
but not likely the case with late model trucks.
My winter front is completely closed and its just barely 60*F in the cab.
Im near Fon du Lac Wi and its about 8+*F

I could make jerky in the bunk :biggrin_25525:

If your hubby is a "driver" then have him check the water valves on the right side if its a Detroit? There may be three of them? The one hardest to find is tucked inside close to the frame rail and it faces forward, anyway make sure all the valves are fully opened.

You block that radiator off I bet it gets warm(er) in there

He is a driver, yes, but not in this particular truck. Got a team in there and this is their 3rd day. Crazy, right?
I will tell him what you said, thanks!!
