Truck stop wifi is expensive and a bad deal IMHO. Its like $3 for an hr and $5 for a 24 hr period. That is a consecutive 24 hrs. You can get monthly deals but can't remember the price. I use Verizon and am MUCH happier with it than I was with ATT. Haven't had a problem with finding a tower with Verizon yet. Its sometimes slow but nowhere near as bad as ATT was.
Yea!!! Finally get to go someplace warm. Picking up a beer load in NY and taking it to Orlando, Fl. Sure hope its sunny when I get there.

Negative, I am solo company. Does have limitations, but don't have to put up with in-cab conflicts.

The major truck stops offer pay plans. Typically 5$ a day $150/yr. I am using a "deal" flying J offered 3 months for $50. I have gotten my moneys worth. Some truck stops offer free (Boise Stage Stop, Bosselman). I have even run into free wireless at one customer. Also most motels..comfort series, super 8 offer same. Hard to justify the $70/month wireless.
    Anyone know of other options?

    The LastKidPicked checking in...

Had a call for a load of hay to be delivered up to Estes Park. Had to go right on the spot because it is one of my best customers.

Problem is, that put me in Estes Park while River Runner was parked within about 15 miles of my farm. I guess it's all about timing.

Jess, thank you for forwarding his number, and River Runner, I'll call you so you have my number in your phone for a future attempt at a meet up for lunch.

From an earlier post that I don't feel like searching for.... Yes if you take your truck into the shop they will readjust your ECM for the appropriate speed for your status. Hit Arizona yesterday to discover this. I'm sure it's only psychological since it's only a 3mph difference, but the only trucks I passed yesterday where in the breakdown lane, and I was pretty sure the last time I took some of these hills I was doing 40-45 not 25-30.

Wondering if I can get a handicapped sticker for the truck?

Well, got to get headed east towards KY to make up the 3 hours added due to speed differential and 5 hour delay getting loaded.

    :) :) :) :) :)

Chances are his QC was messed up. It still records overspeed though. Same thing happened on my Trainer's W9 when I was driving. We left the Petro in Laramie and I told my trainer that I thought we somehow have the wrong truck because I was accelerating beyond 65 mph on flat ground. but he didnt believe me until he looked over. About 300 miles later we also noticed the odometer wasnt working either. So at Rock Springs we stopped and then it fixed it self after that.

I use my phone most of the time, but for about 2.5 years we used an air card. Some truck stops, mostly the independants, offer free wifi, which is decent. You can get plans through the truck stops for about $20 a month, the problem is if you have Flying J access, you have to be at a J, or one of their parnters to get the access.

If you have a smart phone (iphone, blackberry, droid) you can usually get an addon for your phone and turn it into a modem. I have Verizon, and the addon for a smartphone for tethering is $30, but you're already paying another $30 for internet access for the phone, so it's about the same as an air card.

Air cards are handy, although there's a limit to how much transfer they have. Don't expect to get an air card and Netflix download service and not have a $300 phone bill. We have a Sprint, which was unlimited when we purchased it, and grandfathered in. I would suggest a Verizon or AT&T if you get one, as their networks are much larger. Where I get less than dial up on the Sprint aircard, I can get 3G tethering my phone.

That happened to our International too. Speedometer was stuck at 23, and the qualcomm said the same thing, and yet I was keeping up with the bull haulers for a few miles. Pulled off, shut the truck off, and when it came back on, it went back to slow.
