I gotta agree with a few posts above, if he was fully on the shoulder then the garbage truck should also share in some of the blame. How many thousands of vehicles managed to drive past without incident?
Still no excuse to sit there for 24 hours. This is one of the reasons why drivers should have some basic knowledge of how a truck works. At least enough to patch it up and limp the unit to a rest area or something.
Broker/Shipper left me stranded for over 24hrs on busy highway.

I know some big companies that have paid big money and we're further off the road.
For the Twitter post pics. The "op" was parkerd off the shoulder onto the grass. The garbage truck was 8' feet-ish off the highway.Vampire Thanks this. -
Texas law takes into consideration that people may need to pull over on the highway for various reasons. In other words, if you are having car trouble or some other emergency, you can lawfully pull over to the shoulder of the highway. In many cases, that’s what the highway shoulder is for. Parking on the shoulder ensures that a driver is not blocking the flow of traffic and is the preferable act over stopping in a lane. In fact, the Texas code states that a vehicle may park, stop or stand in the following situations:
- Stopping, parking or leaving the vehicle off the main traveled part of the highway is not practicable.
- A width of the highway beside the vehicle is unobstructed and open for the passage of other vehicles; and
- The vehicle is in clear view for at least 200 feet in each direction on the highway.

I sure wish this thread had a better outcome. Woo doggie!
Personally, I would have dragged this trailer off the interstate to safety even if it meant damaging the dang thing.ZVar and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
I've stayed on the side of the road exactly once.
I had someone in route instantly with a super single to replace the junk recap.
I have driven on a blown super single to get off the road. Better ruin a rim than have someone hit you and take your house.
No trailer issue would keep me on the shoulder a day. I don't care if I am dragging an axle. -
