This thread was started March 2nd. Almost 4 months ago.

If the rates were crashing then, and fuel was to the moon.........what planet is fuel at now, and have rates left a crater where they crashed?

    Asking for a friend.

could be, but he 60k-110k saved a year from a driver would be worth it. Also you can have one operator watch multiple vehicles.

as I have predicted. First step is remote operations. Then slowly one operator will watch over 5-10 vehicles. Then maybe platooning, until full autonomous self driving is introduced.

Once Tesla trucks hit the road and it’s Starlink is 100% operational, Tesla will have road conditions miles ahead before it’s vehicles get there. Part of self driving trucks. Even small cars can platoon to the larger trucks and have that truck drive them.

Had a broker call me today to waste my time offering me a 48k load that needed 8 foot tarps for $2 a mile.

I laughed and said the shipper better be paying for my fuel and driving my truck for me at that rate.

Interesting perspective ! So in the future u think a bunch of "dispatchers" will watch over their trucks from a office cubicle?

That is correct. If starlink can achieve 100% coverage of the US at all times and be redundant enough to not have service disruptions, then it will happen.

maybe if Elon is smart enough he can get truckers paid, by platooning. Example

Truck has a 600 mile trip, someone in a small car also has a 500 mile trip, that small car can platoon with that truck, allowing the driver to make more money. By charging maybe 0.05 cents per mile or something. Then that car driver can sleep.

Or even truck with truck platooning.

I’m just posting to be in before 27 people come and say why autonomous trucks will never work in this country.

Just think far off in the future. A single owner operator could run a fleet of trucks without ever hiring a driver and without ever leaving the house. That sounds great.

Im guessing at that point when the trailer is married to the truck it can be done automatically.

well it doesn’t have to do anything but reefer and dry van, but those drivers being let go will move onto other parts of trucking. So in the end Specialized will be effected.
