This is where one would have to prioritize the gear they are adding to a truck. Which is a very important consideration; however there is a reason that DOT spreads sand on the roads and not kitty litter.

Sand doesnt turn into slick snail snot after it gets wet.
I have never carried either and not likely to start.

Ive only ever carried a small bag of salt. I think its like a 5lb bag. That was just to keep me from busting me arse when I stepped off the truck onto the frozen ground after ice storms. It also helps when you tote skateboards.

After a particularly embarrassing arse-busting episode, Stace got me these really cool metal things that slide on over your boots and give you serious traction even on solid ice. They work great. Not sure how much they were but I think she got them at Cabela's.JustSonny Thanks this.

Sound like crampons used for winter mountaineering.JustSonny Thanks this.

Is that what they are? They kinda look like the little coiled heating elements you see in a toaster only more sturdy. The nice thing is they aren't all full of spikes so you don't have to worry about stepping off the ice into your trailer or something.
I definitely recommend them if a person is as uncoordinated as I am.
