Why would you want to go to Portland anyway?

That's the way I always went, except you take Orygun 22 over to 5 after Sisters.

The Google maps picture gives an indication. But, short sighted. While the route through Vegas appears to be the shortest route. The route utilizing 210 is, in my opinion, the optimal route. It is a bit longer. But, It is much clearer Interstate and you'll be doing alot less slowing, accelerating and stopping. My guess is fuel consumption will be insignificant as a result. I go those roads often. If I were given that load, without question I'd go the I-10, 210, I-5 route. That said, timing will be important in a sense. I wouldn't want to go through the Inland Empire area during high traffic times. And, that route also includes going down the grapevine and over Shasta. If you're gonna be heavy, take that into consideration.
I'm a Swiftie and never had a problem taking an alternate route than that given if I choose to. However, if I do choose, I'll have reason(s) to justify it. Naturally I'll always want to take an optimal route for the conditions. If I want a different route, it's because, in the circumstance involved, it'll be a better route. Weather is a common reason I'll deviate from a given route. I go from Denver to Salt Lake City commonly. The preferred route is to go up to I-80 and over. But, given common weather conditions, the I-70 route can be better. Personally, I prefer I-80. But, to avoid high winds or snow, I'll do I-70 when appropriate.
Like I said, I've never had a problem deviating from a given route. But, if I want to deviate, I always habe a justifiable reason.

It's not like I have a choice. Long trip though, good miles. Lots of grades in NorCal and southern OR.

Different strokes for different folks. I'll take a load to Portland anyday! I prefer running in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Alot of beautiful scenery to traipse through in my opinion. Much rather go there, especially in the summertime than say Phoenix (where I'm currently sitting).

You should ask if you could just stay in Casa Grande. Much nicer.

It is quite apparent that we see things differently! During the winter, I might tend to agree more, especially for Yuma. But, during these summer months, the only time I want to get anywhere close to or South of I-40 is when I'm going on hometime. Not surprisingly I tend not to spend as much time home during the summer months too.

Cool but I would still go the rural route by preference. VA CDL HOLDER, which grocery warehouse are you going to?
