If the forecasters are correct, 2010 holds little promise for increased freight. More carriers will be closing their doors and competition will continue to drive freight shipping prices down. What if you get caught in the middle? Do you have an escape plan? Do you even think you need an escape plan? What's your level of confidence in the carrier you drive for right now? What carrier do you feel certain you could look to in order to keep moving?

:munky2:I looked in my crystal ball, but, you don't want to know what I saw. Some well established companies that went out of business over the years; Arrow Trucking, Jevic, Consolidated Freightways, not to mention the slew of companies that merged or let themselves be bought out to avoid collasping. (CFI/Conway, SMX/Western Express, Roadway/Yellow). My advice? Plan on anything happening and save some cash. There is no Job security anymore. In Phoenix, Az., they are laying off 15% of the cops to adjust the budget! Un heard off.

I see from your previous posts that you hauled cars. With the economy down , I'll bet people are not buying cars so you have nothing to haul. I hope you found a stable company to work for. I hung it up...so far so good.

Pack up the most important things in my truck and put a bus ticket on the credit card. We used up all the savings while I was out of work for 6 months. The way the economy is you just never know these days. But I don't sit around worring about it. Either way, life goes on. One day at a time.

There is an old proverb that says, "Man plans, God laughs."

You do need to make plans for the future, just remember that no matter how many plans and back up plans you have, something CAN come along and screw them up.

Now, on that cheerful note - I'm planning on going to dinner now. Catch y'all a bit later!:biggrin_25525:

Well, I have a plan to have enough money saved back to be able to buy a cheap used car. Load all my stuff out of the truck. Then sell the car when I get home.
