Apparent homicide discovered after tractor-trailer runs off Thruway

State police are investigating a bizarre beating death that apparently occurred in the cab of a tractor-trailer on the New York State Thruway on Tuesday night.
Two Ohio men, co-drivers of the rig, were involved in the attack. The victim, a 43-year-old man from Miamisburg who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect is a 46-year-old man from West Carrollton City, Ohio.
"We're in the process of interviewing the suspect, and we are conferring with the district attorney's office to file the appropriate charges," State Police Capt. Michael P. Nigrelli said this afternoon.
Those charges are expected to include some type of homicide charge.
Troopers responded to an 8:21 p.m. call Tuesday about a truck that went off the westbound Thruway in the Town of Hamburg and struck some trees.

Ohio man pleads innocent in killing of fellow truck driver

Rudy A. Arnette today was ordered to remain jailed without bail by State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia after he pleaded not guilty to a one-count murder indictment in the fatal beating and stabbing of fellow trucker Robert Hardy last month on the westbound Thruway in Hamburg.

Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita and Homicide Prosecutor Colleen Curtin Gable said Arnette, 46, of West Carrollton City, Ohio, killed Robert Hardy, 43, of Miamisburg, Ohio, in their tractor-trailer Jan. 26. Authorities have charged that Arnette beat and stabbed Hardy as he was driving it on the Thruway. Arnette faces a life-term if convicted.

The two men were co-drivers for a Youngstown, Ohio firm and, according to authorities, had developed a mutual animosity in the time they had been sharing the cab and driving duties.
