At several barns Joplin included the pen hands bring em to you in one bunch unless you have a split load then they will bring each split. Once their in the pens you cut out how many you want for each cut and push em on yourself. With a good hand pushing it does go better. Usually on the farm they will push em up the chute for you. Little barns will just leave your paperwork at x place you find your stock and bring them up etc. I don’t view what I do as hard, or whatever it’s just a way of life. I can’t imagine it no other way

A few glancing blows. I was loading out back one night out back by myself and had a 1000lb steer turn on me. I was too far from the cut gate as it was I turned to run and jump up to stand on the jail rail when I fell. The next few minutes were touchy. A couple broken ribs, a collar bone and a leg that hurt like nobody’s business. But I loaded and went anyway. Dumb idea, i just thought it hurt. Till about 8 hrs later....

I've been bumped into walls, and knocked over a couple of times but just out and out kicked, no. The worst was breaking my arm in two places when my oldest son let the head gate go too soon on the squeeze chute.
I've been hurt a lot worse by horses than cows.

I was reloading at the old cattle rest along side Of I-20 (forget the name or number of the exit). Had triple deck load, was pushing the last few head onto the top deck, trailing calf kicked me in the forehead. I did not knock me out but I did sit there for a minute. Other than that, I have been kicked in the side once or twice but no serious injuries.

I’ve watched some of the guys reloading their stuff at the feeding station a few times. Not my thing.

I didn’t know a cow could do a back flip until I went up to watch the guys load one night. Those varmints have some gymnast in them when they don’t want to go on the trailer.
