Just as well start the interaction by finding out if they have a sense of humor!

I'm not saying this to be contrary; has anyone ever had DOT ask to see receipts? I never have, and I am not sure that they are allowed to.
If a guy just logs On Duty while fueling, but does not mention fueling, what reason would they have?

My concern would be having a receipt for an alternator that was purchased during offduty or sleeper berth time. Seems like that would stand out, maybe the co-driver bought it?

Isn't it legal to make purchases while off duty? I don't know, but it doesn't seem any different than buying chrome goodies. And, can they search your sleeper looking for receipts? I'm not arguing, just curious. I've never had it happen.

Have you ever driven a true fully mechanical before? It is a different animal if you’re used to the new just mash the throttle and go engines. Higher working and cruise rpms and no lugging around. Know when to ease into it or let out of it before the fuel pressure, boost or exhaust heat that is going to kill it happens because the computer controls that on new engines but not a mechanical. You have to be smarter than the engine or you will burn it down quick. Overhauls on the old NTC’s ain’t cheap no more and unfortunately most of the parts are chinese knock off now. I’m Sure old Cats are slowly going that way as well.

He’s in for some learnin’. Just cause Tejas Dot don’t keep the lights on at the coups don’t mean they arn’t out on the roads or patrolling the places that have the heaviest truck traffic. They have plenty of unmarked cvsa certified bears around in the state. But just like Tejas state game wardens you may not see one till the worst time He just hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting one yet. They do care a lot about logs just wait and see.

I don't know, seems like a grey area if the purchase is work related or a part that you then spend an hour or two installing. An owner operator wears more than one hat in terms of maintenance and bookkeeping as well as just driving so I don't really view it the same as a company driver might.

A 1999 CAT/Cummins/Detroit will rely exclusively on an ECM to run. Its the chassis side that will have less computers. That's where the simplicity comes in.

I got a 20 min ### chewing in Ka. while back because he wanted to see my last fuel receipt to see if I had logged it.. .. I told him that I hadn't fueled on the load I was under and I had already sent everything in from my previous load.. he started quizzing me about who would I send it too since I'am my own company... I fired back that I had to send the fuel receipts in on my load settlement sheet because I charge a fuel surcharge .. and my buyer wants to see the fuel receipts because your Uncle Joe has jacked the fuel prices.. that pissed him off even more .. then I got another 10 min lecture about how bull haulers shouldn't get a Ag exemption.. because we are shady .. as we parted ways I told him I'am proud of being a shady cow hauler cause I couldn't imagine taking a charity paycheck from the tax payers
