Plus think of all the technology you would need. Computer systems to put delivery routes together, computer programs to put line haul freight together, computer programs that monitor bill counts and what the bills are and all the weight is and then broadcast that across the terminals so the terminal in City A can see what the terminal in City B is sending them and even beyond that in 2 days what's coming as far as freight in the system heading their way the technology alone would be multiple millions of dollars forget trucks, trailers and fork lifts the whole IT side of it is just mind boggling really. My old neighbor told me that UPS Parcel spends $1Billion Billion with a B dollars a year just on technology and IT stuff. I'm sure every company out there has now a days in house people who had to build and make in house programs. The entire technology side of it is a business in it's self really the trucks and trailer and terminals that's the easy part compared to all the computers and legal end of it.

In my opinion a truck load carrier would probably be slightly less daunting. C.L. Werner started Werner in the 1950s he's still alive today (retired) but going to Skinner Macaroni and saying hey we can haul stuff for you and the traffic manager saying fine drop some trailers here and you haul them directly is easier then making 10 separate deliveries and 10 separate pick ups and then bringing them back to a building and sorting them and sending them off in different directions and combining them with other freight, so on and so fourth.
