They haul brick cubes in dryvans now. How do you properly secure anything in a van trailer anyway? All you can do is try to push everything into the headboard with e-straps, or if it's a typical refer you only have those expanding poles. I just doesn't make sense. I guess flat bedders are just too rare a breed these days and they have to make due.

    FerrissWheel Thanks this.

Load securement is only a fraction of what happened there. That driver was going too fast at that curve. Granted, it ain't no dead man's curve or anything like that, but when you have a high and heavy profile load, beer, roll stock, and some skidded coils come to mind, you gotta drive that load differently. You can have straps and load locks, but if your driving is too careless, the trailer is taking you down. How many trucks have we seen on here that toppled over and beer was the commodity?

So have I, but my loads were usually only a few crates, that I was able to secure with only a few straps. But again, in all the time I spent as a door slammer, I never carried more than 4 or 5 van straps. The companies I worked for wouldn’t even issue more than that.

*I also never seen engines or anything real heavy in those crates double stacked like that.

I used to haul eye to the sky aluminum coils out of Indiana on a flatbed. I'd use 12-14 straps to secure my load and a van driver would literally close the doors and drive away with no securement. This doesn't surprise me at all

I had 25 etrack straps, 4 retractable load locks and found over time 4 long ones that was left, gave them to new drivers that needed some.

I still got my straps/no slick pads/blankets in my storage shed

I was hauling can's out of Long Beach's Port terminal Island, Turns out that AJR did not like me opening trailers to secure loads, just because a container is sealed does not mean its secured, if that loads shifts its your butt, even if its sealed the accident will go on your record. So now on occasion I'm sent for a container but I tell my dispatch that I'm going to open it sealed or not, if they don't care for that they need to send another driver. Your CDL and you Butt, protect them.

    Not just beer.
Quite a few times at Western Express I’ve seen bottled water loads that have taken down a few trucks and drivers because an off-ramp was taken too fast. The sign may say 25 mph,but when you’re pulling 46,000 pounds of H2O you want to take it MUCH SLOWER than that!

Many don’t comprehend those speed signs on ramps are mainly directed at cars..trucks shiuld take those at least 5-10mph under minimum..
