It would depend on whether or not the drive-line could handle the additional torque at low speeds. It can be done but may not be advisable. The engine develops peak torque probably of 1450 ft lbs at the 430 hp setting and probably 1550 at 470 hp.
If you normally take it easy on the pedal while in the field, it probably wouldn't matter. It won't make that much difference to you at lower speeds to have the 40 more HP. The electronic engines have more low end torque than the mechanical Cat to begin with as long as they are running right.

you got that right 52. that being said, as long as your driveline is up to it, your local detroit diesel dealer can turn that motor up- as far as 500 hp at 2100 rpm (if my memory serves me correctly). and they can turn it up to a straight 470 if you want. but you will have to take it easy in the field, as least starting out. And post some pics already!!! we need to see the new hibred ride!

I will get some pictures as soon as we get the truck home from the body shop, its in getting the frame sandblasted and painted and there was a polished stainless wind deflector on the cab that we are having removed along with the mirrors on the hood so with all that work it wasn't alot more to have the whole truck painted a litlle different blue, going to match the frame with a little different color blue instead of black so it should look sharp, here are a couple pics before, one in the shop and one of our 89 Freightliner, again thanks i really appreciated all your replies, great to have so many nice people here. Will the Kenworth turn as sharp as our Freightliner did?

That was a nice looking 89. You took good care of it. I just bought an 86 359 pete and I wish it looked that nice.
That 430 detroit will feel like a 350 compared to your mechanical motor. The computer motor will take some getting used to. the power isn't there when you push the pedal down it's only there when the computer decides everything is right for the power to be there. -
The one good you will notice is the fuel economy. The KW is more aerodynamic and it appears to have a longer wheelbase meaning the ride is more comfortable. hope that helps.

Actually they were both very close in wheebase lengths, the T600 is about 9" longer so not alot of difference. I was talking with a mechanic today and he figure that the 12.7 Detroit in this truck is 1450 lbs torque and can only be set up to 470hp, would be nice to have 500 but probably not, will know more when we get it on the computer. Anyone else think we should be dumping the air out of the bags when unloading a 38' end dump trailer, talked to a driver today and he thought it wouldn't be necessary and it would be less strain on everything not to, just to leave the air in the bags, any other comments would be appreciated, thanks.

if you do dump the bags the tractor will be more stable....plus you dont hafta worry about overextending your bags when all the wieght comes off
i used to run a kw dump truck with air suspension....if you didnt dump the bags the darn thing always felt about ready to fall over -
How many Kilometers does the KW have and what kind of fuel economy did you get using the FL120?
Kinghunter -
The 2001 Kenworth has 552,000 kms on it and the 1989 Freightliner Fld120 had 650,000 kms. As far as fuel economy we honestly didn't check it, we used it from field to elevator and only made short runs, seems like as soon as we got into top gear it was time to stop and start all over again. The more i think about dumping the air out while unloading grain from the dump trailer it would probably be a good idea, much more stable especially when its a little windy out. Hoping we are going to get the truck back late this week or early next week and then i will post a few pictures of it. Thanks for all the advice and if anyone else can tell me more on the Detroit i would appreciate it.

Its probably DDEC IV 470 is most likely max unless you go with Pittsburgh power.http://www.pittsburghpower.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=7&sort=4a&filter_id=23
The AG 100 8 Bag more stable than that good looking old Timmy FLD, just have to keep an eye on the bushings and mounts keep em greased good. That suspension used on dumps, logging, oil field trucks and tractors..
