I have been a Logistics Coordinator for 16years for Flatbeds. I just had an issue come up with a customer and I would like to know the opinions of other Logistics Coordinators and Drivers
I have been hauling freight for this paticular customer for 10 years now. We are never asked to tarp there loads. We have a driver load a load from CA to FL last week. Driver arrived to delivery and they rejected the load saying that it should have been tarped and the product is damaged.
My customer is telling me that it is the driver's responsibility to know that it should have been tarped.
Nor myself or the driver have the product knowledge of THEIR freight to have know what needs tarped or not.
The customer nor the loader at THEIR PLANT informed me or the driver that this load needed a tarp. Gave my driver his BOL's and sent him on his way. Nothing on the load sheet/BOL's/ or original email rate request shows this load needed a tarp. We have not tarped or been asked to tarp a single load for this customer in the past 10 years.
We have no issue tarping customers freight, when instructed to do so. If a tarp would have been requested or needed. We would have charged the customer $75.00 tarp fee. I
The customer will not admit that they neglected to tell us this load needed a tarp. Saying it's completely my drivers fault that the load is damaged. Won't unload the driver at the site in FLORIDA and will not accept him to return the damaged product back in CALIFORNIA>
ANY FEEDBACK IS WELCOME.

What was the freight?
Flat Earth Trucker, Another Canadian driver and Numb Thank this. -
Our dispatches do not show what type of rock/gravel or sand is in the bags or on the pallets.
just shows pallet count and weight
How are we supposed to know unless they tell me or the driver? We don't know THEIR product needsAnother Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Right or wrong, a 10 year customer with a lot of loads i would cover it. If they were a good customer other than this one time. And charge to tarp from now on.
blairandgretchen, Aamcotrans, gentleroger and 4 others Thank this. -
I would of tarped the load if instructed to. We don't tarp unless we are told to, as we would charge for the tarp and have to pay the driver a tarp fee.
What am I supposed to do with the damaged product on my truck and stuck in FL with no where to take the load? We are from the West Coast.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
After 10 years i would think the customer would at least split it with you.Flat Earth Trucker, MOBee, Kenny Vader and 3 others Thank this. -
MOBee, Another Canadian driver and Kar80 Thank this.

Was the product really damaged ? New receiver ? Could this be a complaint by receiver because they simply do not want/need the load ?
Possibly re-consign to another customer ?
If you had never had claim in past, doing the same thing, same product, I would say they do not have legitimate claim.
If good, loyal customer over the years, I would try to work it out, but also be prepared to eat the cost, if their volume warrants the expenditure.
Good customers are hard to find.MOBee, Another Canadian driver, Kar80 and 1 other person Thank this. -
austinmike, MOBee and Another Canadian driver Thank this.
