They can be. If you have the reefer loads out of Oregon, you usually watch the freight come off and pick up a couple things.
If you have the dry loads out of Washington, they pack them tip to tail, floor to ceiling, and things fall everywhere. You're going to find lightbulbs under big screen televisions, dishes that fall from the ceiling to the floor, and anything else stupid you can think of. You'll probably fill 2-3 pallets full of the stuff that falls off the other pallets, or is wedged in between them.

Hazmat spills are bad. Very bad. Especially when you're not the one with spilled hazmat, and you can't get in your truck.
We spent the better part of 2 hours waiting for the Hazmat team to foam down a truck hauling racing fuel in Nevada. and we spent it out of the truck, because I wasn't smart enough to crawl out of the sleeper and turn on the CB to ask what was going on. Oh no. I got dressed, we got out, and then Hazmat saw us and wouldn't let us go back except to get a couple things. Guess that's what I get for being woken up from a nap. -
That just makes me cry. Poor brave puppy.

Is this old news? Don't want to rehash old news, but just saw the story in OOIDA's Landline magazine (new edition), and I hadn't heard anything about it.

There was thread about it a few months ago in the trucking news section.

Pretty danged scary...and to pick on a Walmart guy - those guys are like saints. The standards for getting hired there are astronomical.

Kenworth W900 operators - what realistic fuel mielage are you seeing when under load? I'm not going with Central, just signed onto a small company and a dedicated run (as a 1099 lease/owner), but I'm trying to compare fuel mileage between a W900 and a Volvo 670/680. Both trucks are wide open, so I'll have to do a little math...but a general idea would be appreciated.

I have a dry load out of Washington.

does this situation seem impossible to anyone else? My Freddy load was preset yesterday while I'm still under a Kraft load to a Freddy DC in Oregon. The preset has no information. No pick up time, no 99. the 99 was (multiple utah stores). The kraft load delivers # 0100 at the Freddy DC in Clackamas, OR. Freddy DC doesnt do early arrivals more than 30 minutes early. OK, fine, guard has me pull to the side to park for 30 minutes. Finally in a a door (one of the first). Other trucks start getting into the doors around me... Swift backs in next to me and almost hits me (thats another story). All the other trucks start leaving, even Swift left before me and he was the last in the door in the area. I dont leave until 0430 (last to leave).
Once released from the Freddy DC I QC for updated load info for my Freddy dry load. My After Hrs DM QC me back and says its not finished being booked and Customer Svc will send me updated info. So I start headding up to the 01 and still no info. I then pull off into a rest area and take a nap. Finally, 0830 i get the QC that gives me pick up appt, and delivery appts for 2 stops. Pick up today at 1400, deliver about 700 Miles away 2/3 1400. I still have 4.5 hrs I can drive so I go to the Freddy DC in Washington and HOPE they have it done. I get to the 01 at about 1000. The guard tells me that im REALLY early and not sure if its ready yet and again... Freddy doesnt do early (but yet if you are late you will catch all kinds of hell). I explain to the guard my situation with lack of hrs and if i didnt pick up now, then I would be late because I would be on my federally mandated 10 hr break. She sympathized for me and told me to pull my empty trl out back and my trl was in door 61, if it has a green light then I can take it.
I then drive all the way back down to Portland where my QC beeps at me warning be about 14 hr violation. Crap. So now I'm at the TA in Troutdale on my 10. I THINK I can bring it to Logan, UT for my 02 EARLY (depending how slow my truck goes up the Cabbage Patch) But that's it. my 99 is definitely going to be late because it was supposed to deliver at 1600 (2 hrs after the 02) tomorrow... So in a nutshell, DH for about 100 miles to pick up my load backtrack 100 miles and drive another 600 miles in 24 hours.
I think this load should have been given to a team with the short delivery times.
Edit: not to mention 10 hrs from portland to Logan, UT doing 60-62 breaking Oregon's speed limit of 55mph. -
Well back to the doc tomorrow almost a week early. The pain is worse than ever and now my incision is bleeding terribly bad. I have a real bad feeling in the pit of my stomach that something really bad has gone array. Please pray for me that this is all in my head but I just can't shake the feeling that something terrible is going to be told to me tomorrow.
