(feeling offended by aftershock, whom seems to be attacking my veracity)
I have 5 months logged OTR. Not that it is really any business of yours aftershock. I went to school with some backwoods company to learn to drive. I have run a lawn mowing business for more than 25 years now and my customers are more important to me than driving. Since that time I have lost many of my customers from the economy. So after the mowing season I went driving. First attempt was with England, and if you had been paying attention you would know about the why and what not already. But alas you have not, I suggest you reread ,my earlier posts on CR england. Not that you care.
Actually I had some experience (only a thousand miles) prior to England. With in a couple of weeks. I didnt care to drive tired which is what that company is notorious of doing. You only learn the dark side after you get in the company.
England at that time had 3 different categories of drivers. Recent graduates - right out of school no driving, Refreshers - some driving, not enough to be OTR ready, and (forgot this classification) was for drivers with 10k miles or more- these were people that went only 10 days with a trainer before graduating to avoiding first seat, as they had the miles and experience.
-----------------------------
These days I would settle for driving a dump truck. I have a offer from a local that in a year he may rehire drivers when the economy is better. I am not actively seeking a driving career as I dont care to go OTR at this time. I do still scout around for a freightliner 13 speed and have found a few, but alas having to be financially challenged has left my choices for options limited at best.

Alot of bottom-feeder companies try to pull the refresher school ####. As a CDL holder I think I would just walk out unless they show you how to rebuild the whole truck.
I would try to find a local trucking opportunity and continue trying to rebuild your business on the side. -Not supposed to be working during your 10/34 though =so don't tell them. -
There's no intent on my part to offend you in any way. I've included a quote from my post in question. Notice I made it known that my questions could be rhetorical (requires no answer) if you're not comfortable doing so.
I also mentioned that my motive for asking was my curiosity because it didn't sound like standard procedures, and I wondered what the circumstances were.
It's twue, ---- I'm a baaadd man ---->
if necessary and when required. Otherwise I'm pretty mild mannered. ---->
and get along well with others.
However, I seldom "attack" anyone or anything, --- especially one's veracity.
I hope this clears up any misunderstanding.Sounds like your customers are fortunate to have found your mowing business.Sorry, my bad.
I've been without access to a computer for about 6 months and gotten behind in my reading. I'm trying to catch up while staying current, but I reckon some things get overlooked. If I didn't care, I wouldn't have posted anything.
And I'll take your advice and read or re-read your earlier posts. I assume the posts you're referring to are in this thread?
Well, ..... actually, there is another way to learn of the dark side, but it seems too few make the effort to read what others here at TTR have related on the subject, or just ignore the stories from and about the dark side when they do learn about it.
Makes me wonder why day do dat --- but I haven't a clue.
I don't understand what you mean by "avoiding first seat".
-----------------------------
That's a big "if".
Too big to depend on what the economy may be like in a year, or how that affects hiring.I'm not clear whether you're looking for a 13-speed for a Freightliner or a Freightliner with a 13-speed. I'm going with the latter, and it sounds like you're interested in purchasing one. But you've stated that going OTR isn't of interest at this time, and you're not actively seeking a driving career.
I'm confused.
But I do understand being financially challenged.
Been there
Done that
And now I'm writing the book.
NukedNative Thanks this. -
LOL glad I am not the only one confused. After having driven for England the one positive note that I can say for them is that I like the way they spec out their trucks. Freightliner Century. 13 Speed, with 3.58 rears, usually only 2 100 gallon tanks. 500hp Detroit. Condo. There is one in Ebay that keeps showing up every so often but his info isnt that great and he refuses to give all the info necessary (full VIN #, he only lists last 6 digits).
If I do go OTR it would be semi retired driver. 2-3 weeks on 1-2 weeks off depending on my customers. I would like to drive, yet after going company for Western Express I learned one thing. Not many companies really care about their drivers. I do like the long haul to drive, lol I hate having to find a customer whom A) wont talk to you on the phone because you cant find them or B) have terrible directions and put you 25 miles from were you want to be.
I only have 3 customers left, some died, some moved out of state, some went with other people and I am waiting for them to come back, one was trade and who knows what will happen there, 5 lost their houses to bad financing during the Bush administration. Originally I had 14 customers back in 2004 before they all started to go away. Those 14 lawns on average with transportation were done in 2 days time on average (16 hours). Helps to have a good fast mower (Woods F-23 with a 54" deck).
My posts on England are best found by looking at my page here, alas I have been posting for a year so, you have been warned. LOL -
I think if we started a club for the confused
it would fill up pretty fast.
They look good on the outside too.I'm not a big fan of Detroit engines, but I like a 13-speed. Second choice would be an 18-speed, but I don't really have a need to split the low range gears.
That would be a sweet gig.
That's true, ..... sadly. However there are companies that do care about their drivers. It's just a matter of finding those that do care.It sure is a cool experience that, once in the blood is hard, if not impossible to get it out.BoY-0-BoY!
I hear you there.
Or, another company's name is on their building --- lacking a visibly marked address. It's like playing hide N' seek with them.
Or, the directions given include a bridge with a weight limit that the Big truck exceeds --- or a low underpass. When questioned why those directions were given, it's often, Well, that's the way I use to come to work because it's the easiest.
News Flash~ It isn't easy for an 80,000 pound, 13'6" vehicle.
Bummers.
Acknowledged and duly noted.
I've voiced my opinion(s) in writing quite a few times myself. :smt024

- newbies. Carful what you read on here or any of the other blog sites. WORTHLESS are some who make there own foolish experiences into blogs that some trucking companies are our to screw you! Trucking companies get paid FIRST! That's it, that's what all these blogs are trying to say. If you can grasp that concept you are ready to begin your career.
I will continue this blog as soon as possible. Newbies let me know if you have any questions about my experience with cr england -
soooooo...uhhhhhh, are you going to lease a truck?
-
why aren't you driving?
-
i'm chillin' like a villain in sparks. also trying to get my butt home. one problem: lack of freight.
-
My first trucking job was with CR England in 2003...BIG mistake. Started out at 24cpm..was there for a year and decided to do the 6 month demo lease. A BIGGER mistake...ended up leaving them for National Freight (NFI)..which is a MUCH better choice. Too bad I live in an area now where I couldn't still be employed with them
