Sounds fair to me. If a driver fails deliveries due to their own accord, few companies would not note it so they can keep track of who is naughty or nice.

The real question is, do they have the fortitude to fire those that can't get the job done, at the expense of having fewer drivers. IMO, they are better off having fewer drivers and improving the gene pool so they can get right in the customers eyes again. Then work on hiring and retaining the best.

They not only need to do something with some of these drivers but they need to start training these load planners better or get rid of them…that is a major issue right now..here’s some of the nonsense then planners are doing..Planning a load with absolutely no leeway for any kind of delays enroute.

these 2 they wanted me to run and be on time…

no way legally it wouldve been done for on time service..these are just a couple of instances that these folks are screwing up planning and blaming drivers for it..unacceptable..

Perhaps my sarcasm didn’t get through. You should fire the drivers that are (at fault) late, not give them endless warnings.

Planning mistakes or inefficiencies would be harder access without having an inside viewpoint, and probably more difficult and longer term to fix even if the issues were known to those with that view. There are too many variables.

The company I used to work for was only about half the size of Shaffer but the loads were so well planned and efficient, it was amazing. I always seemed to get plans that matched my available 70, with a few hours to spare, plan after plan. It was uncanny. But maybe I was just getting planned that well because they knew I got to home plate every single time without fail, never having a late pickup or delivery. Ultimately though, I imagine their planning team was well oiled, and I’m guessing that started at the top.

Either fire them, or "punish" them. Like just give them the shag runs, give the performers priority on loads. Stuff like that. That way they can keep booking the same number of loads, but need to keep track of the drivers that will actually run them. Obviously there should be a point termination is possible.

Agree because they cause issues through the entire chain since they need to be handled as an exceptions. They impact other drivers that get called upon to complete what they can’t or won’t do. They impact the ops staff because they create scheduling issues for best truck proximity to load availability. They impact dispatchers because they need to deal with the fallout so they have less time to make sure their good driver are taken care of properly.

Those are the tyes of issues that management brings upon the company when they lower standards just to maximize the number of trucks on the road. At some point the dam starts to crack.
