I am helping run a fleet of freightliners with a buddy and I help maintain various years 2014-2016 and noticed that it is not so clear cut on how many gallons/quarts are needed for the oil change and other general maintenance is tough if you don't know the exact type of engine.

after tons of research and reading several forums and Cummins sites, I ran into a blog that stated to search by EIN or engine identification number to search the owners manual which will state the engine size and other data, just wanted to share this useful information.

owner's manual lookup for any Cummins engine

    how to find the EIN
Cummins Care Search Details | Cummins Inc.

source/original blog that helped me discover this:

hope this helps make things easier when getting ready to service a Cummins engine.

Generally, I have found oil capacity for the Detroit DD 13 to be 9 gallons (36 quarts), DD 15 to be 11 gallons (44 quarts) Cummins ISX 15 to be 12 gallons (48 quarts) in trucks. With Detroit DD 15 I have found it is better to dispense 42 quarts initially then only add remaining two quarts if needed.
