That's why I was asking. The more options I know about the better I can plan and prepare.

I lease my truck and trailer that I own onto a company. Had a situation last year where I broke down while under a load.

After the truck&trailer was towed to the dealership, towing company came back with a bobtail, hooked to my flatbed trailer and took me to deliver my load. Luckily it wasn't terribly far but regardless it was nice to get the load delivered, one less stressful thing to worry about while truck was in the shop...

Total mileage for tow and bobtail service was around 50 miles so the bill for both wasn't that bad.

Renting a truck is not always possible. A few months ago everything was rented out around me for 2 weeks+. Had to complete the load with a broken roller and push tube.

The best strategy is to have a second or back up truck on hand. You have the tow truck bring it to you and they take your broken truck back. Finish up what you need to then deal with it once your trip is done.

This is actually one of the biggest items in the "pro" column for leasing on. Even more now that some parts can be on back order for weeks. The worst places I've found for service is KW and Pete shops in the flyover states. Every time I've called one of them it was always a too bad so sad we are booked for at least a week.

Well if its 100 ° f and you have a load of icecream on board and your reefer breaks down your really in a pickle aren't you? Its really going to depend on how quickly you can get a reefer mechanic to fix it, if it is the truck that's broken down provided you have plenty of fuel in the reefer tank you should be fine, if its dry freight you'll also be in the clear, as O/O you are responsible for fixing anything that breaks down, unless of course you have a power only load in which case it should be the owner (company) of the trailer that is responsible, again this would only be an issue if it was a reefer. Which is why it is always good to have the freight you are carrying insured.
