I've been to a lot of hard docks before, even to the point of having less space in front of the door than the length of my truck, but today i had the hardest time backing into a dock i have ever had. I dont know if its just me or if it was really that hard but...it's at Romeo Rim in Romeo, MI, building 2 (wayyy in the back). First of all, its angled towards the sight side, and has a big rolloff sticking out on the blind side, so I started off sight siding it. Well, there just wasnt enough pull-up room to the left. So i got turned around and blind sided it. Which mostly was fine except for that roll off. and the angle of the dock.
Now, blindsides scare the crap out of me and always have. I do everything i can not to do them. That also means i dont have much practice. So i had to roll about 3 feet at a time and stop and get out...cause i cant see ANYTHING....
I got it to where it was lined up with the dock, but my tractor was also pretty much facing the dock, and i could pull up but it would have completely ruined the setup. So i dropped the trailer and hooked my tractor so it was straight and nailed it.
Ever done anything like that before? LOL.
I really dont get how people blindside without getting out even once. I see it quite often. Do they just not care if they hit something, or what? I dont get it.

Most of the places that I have to blind side into I am at nearly every day,...
I don't have to get out and look anymore,...
But if it is your first time in a tough spot I would advise GOAL,......alds Thanks this. -
LOL.. yep been there done that.. there is a dock in cinci.. that you have to jack the tractor to the right.. if you don't other drivers cant get past you..
I have dropped the trailer an rehooked just to get a good shot.. but you do what you have to ..I watched a flat bed in fla.. took him 20mins to hit the dock.. I was half loaded before he got it right.. an he was there before me.. an I was loaded before he was.. I offered to give him a hand.. but he didnt want any help.. -

LOL when I was with CR England, the trainer I had wanted me to park the truck. So I parked it "blind". He at the time thought it was the best I had ever done and wanted to know why. I told him it was the first time he kept his mouth shut.
Granted in CR England if you blind park they supposedly will fire you.
As a company owner and driving the rig below, I had no idea before trucking that blind backing was wrong. LOL all that has changed.Attached Files:

I did LTL for years with mostly a 28' pup and day cab. So, blindsiding with a condo is much easier IF, I assess the situation first and make a decision. But, puttin it inbetween 2 long nose Petes is very risky and I'm not a fool.

Wiseguywireless and Hedon Thank this.

LOL agreed. I would rather park along the road than tempt fate between 2 pimped trucks
