Now this don't make sense. When you say thriving in Trucking business your spouses income doesn't matter.
Good mpg is fine but fuel prices are higher than 1year ago. Rates are in the gutters compared to a year ago. It sounds like your working less so no cheap freight. That ain't thriving that's making it work
If we're being honest most aren't making a killing. We survive. I for one have sat to find good loads. Don't need to work as much as my overhead is low and paid of equipment. But I'm not making what I use to. Work a couple of days net 3k is fine in my books for the time being.

Using terms like “maintenance fund” makes me question if he’s not a LP guy. I don’t have a maintenance fund. I have a bank account. And it’s got more than 30k in it. 30k doesn’t go far today
