I'm graduating from school. On March 19 and I tried to get on with Werner and they wouldn't take me so I'm now trying KLLM and the recruiter said everything looks good to him. From what I've read, KLLM is one of the better companies to work for. How is the training with them? And what kind of trucks do they have? Transmissions? and speed?

I dont know about there training im not there yet, but they have Freightliner Columbia's and Casciadas i think i spelled that wrong with 10 speeds and the trucks are governed at 62 mph

 

Thanks American-Trucker. They seem like a pretty good company. I just hate that I have to drive to the terminal. I live 60-70 miles away and I hate to drive my POV that far to get my truck. Sure wish they'd let me take it home. But, anyway, I'll make the best of it. Do you know anything about the home time. And, how long the training period is?

 

I dont know anything about there hometime but there training is 3-6 weeks

Im hopeing that im far enough away that i can bring my truck home that is if they hire me, i got my fingers crossed!

 

Starting Feb. 10 with orientation in Forest Park, 3 weeks with the trainer
an we'll see were it go's from there. Sure would like to get on with someone I can work with not a bunch of number crunchers that will only know me as a driver #. Wish me luck!

 

Thanks newbie. Actually it was your posts on this forum than got me to join it. I think I know exactly where you live. I live in Bogalusa, so we are in pretty much the same neck of the woods. I went to driving school in Hammond. (my second since I had to do it all over again due to time out of the saddle). I cam off home-time got my newer truck,and was put under a load to Baton Rouge, then after 6 hours at the customer there, I deadheaded to Gulfport to get a hot load of nanners going to Krogers in Deleware, Oh. When I ran out of hours at my fuel stop in Meridian, Ms they took it off me and gave me a chicken load to Ft. Worth. Then when I pulled into Jackson to get fuel My truck went into the shop, and now I have no load and less than 600 miles for the week. Again thanks for all your learning stories. they made for a few hours of good reading, and research into KLLM.

 

Hey PolarBear im from hammond how was Coastal truck driving school.. And how is it working for kllm.. Do they let you bring the truck home and how are the miles looking like.. Thnks and be safe

 

To be able to bring the truck home you must live over 150 miles from the nearest terminal.

Hometime is credited at 1 day per week you are out. You must be out a minimum of 10 days before you can request hometime and it must be requested 7 or more days before the first day you are requesting off.
If you put in, say 3/13 for the start of your hometime, they have until midnight of 3/13 to get you home. SO..if you have a doctor's appointment, court date, or some other vitally important appointment you will want to put in for the day or two days prior to that date.

Clear as mud? You get used to it with some practice....

I think you will like it with KLLM then. Open door policy with the office folks and they call you by name once they get to know you.
