Well they are in survival mode. So if a good paying job comes up why would they not take it even if they have to cross the picket line.

 

I think "outside carriers," whether they be small fleets or owner ops, is more accurate.

Purchased transportation, as we call it internally.

 

Which Fedex? Fedex Express only uses their own drivers and a few big contract carriers as far as I've ever seen but I retired about 6 years ago. Fedex Ground, no idea and wouldn't work with those delinquents anyway. I have been a carrier with Fedex Customs Critical for a few years but they were spamming me with so many lousy loads that didn't match my lanes I cut off their emails.

You can make some money as a carrier with Customs Critical on the spot market. They move expedite only pretty much.

 

Yeah, it was custom critical. The loads do look like crap.

 

I couldn't tell you these days because they haven't offered me anything since I blocked all their emails but these days everybody's rates look like crap.

 

i could care less, they work a day, they get a day's pay, and excellent benefits as well

not entirely true. i had worked for a contractor, that had the DHL account way back, when UPS went on strike. the other companies got over whelmed by the sheer volumes. the next strike UPS pulled, all the other companies held back for THIER customers first, UPS customers were given the heave-ho.

yes, yes they do. a family member of mine, works part time, part time mind you, as a truck unloader, for the "brownies"...he gets just over $25 per hour and FULL union membership AND FULL medical benefits.......for stinking part time work, of like under 25 hours per week..>!!!!!
so they do just fine as far as pay and bene's go..
