Pittsburgh Power is a sham company and will scam you out of your money. Stay way clear of those idiots. They are not reputable at all and do not stand behind their service.

I’m here at a shop in Greer S.C as I type. Truck derated last Wednesday and got towed to shop on Thursday. Now it’s next Thursday 1 week later and after changing Nox sensor,, dozer and DEF header, mechanics had a big tech come and determine it was the One Box. Truck has 946,000 miles. Total for it was told is $10,100 not including labor. Plus the 5k already put in with the other parts. We are looking at about 17-19k. Thankfully I had decided not to buy the truck from the owner because I had seen a few items that needed fixing.

Cummins isn't the same as Detroit. That's actually an SCR.

Had Casper done at 675K. $8700 at Cummins.

And it's all got to be recalibrated with the ecm or it will never work right.

I don't know that as I am no diesel mechanic. I was just happy to find a one box on Ebay. Now maybe I'll find a two box.

Their is some shop in Ohio the guys can take the One Box apart and replace SCR filters if I remember those are the ones that are built in to the box and can't be replaced by dealer. This shop in Ohio and maybe other now figured out they can get blowtorch and take them out and weld the new ones back in.

I believe it was some post on here that a driver found a shop in Ohio that did this.

weakening how? the only way a 1-box can get 'weak' is build up of pressure inlet or outlet, from particulate accumulation, or reduced conversion efficiency, from DEF pump/doser problem or various sensors not reading correctly. the only reason you need a whole new 1-box is if the box itself gets damaged, or if the SCR is damaged, the SCR is i think the front-end filter that's built in to the 1-box, comes first before the DPF (the canister).

if the SCR is not damaged and the box is not damaged, none of those other things on one bill together done all at once is anywhere near 10k. a DPF remanufactured swap or cleaning is maybe 500, sensors are a pain to get out but not even 500, DEF doser/pump maybe twice that much. swapping a 1-box is like swapping an engine for bad injectors

The "weakening" they are referring to is degrading of the precious metal coating on the DOC (platinum), the SCR catalyst coating (zeolite) and AMOX catalyst precious metal (platinum). The DPF's can be replaced on One Box, DOC and SCR/AMOX can not be "easily" replaced.
