I maintain about 25 hours on my 70. We literally have OEM contracts out the wazoo (Ford, GM, Chrysler, Nissan, couple others I don'tdo). But please, tell me more about how hard I have to work and how I'm running spot freight. I'm not home every night because I choose not to be. If you are happy, great. I'm just saying 318k for a full year (which is what recruiters advertise for) should be insulting.

First off I agree that if someone had to work 55-70 hours a week 52 weeks a year for $318,000 I would say don’t do it. That would be an insult to a professional Carhaul owner operator and known as cheap freight. Reread my post and quote me where I told you how hard you need to work. I said I have no desire to work as hard as it would take ME To Make $500,000. This would be done by grossing to the truck $9,615 a week 52 weeks a year. I have absolutely no desire to work that much, but with todays current work availability it is possible. Not probable or desirable for me. Whether or not you are hauling spot market or contract is no concern to me as I could care less what you are making or what you are hauling. I will say once again, I don’t want to trade my work(schedule) or income with anyone, this doesn’t mean I think I am making more money than anyone or working less hours. What you have failed to realize is that even at my company it is not a one size fits all deal. Some make less and some make more than me. I don’t care about either one. I care about me and I can promise I don’t make average money regardless of what some recruiter says.
I have a good friend and long time coworker who is currently grossing $20,000 a week or more. Working his tail off and they need more trucks. Am I going to take my truck there? Absolutely not because I have exactly what suits me currently!

Then what was the point in responding to my comment to start with? You like to type a lot of words trying to put people in their place, all because I stated that I don't work hard and my truck grosses over 400k. On a 5 car. On contract freight. If you would have to bust tail to get 500k, on a 9 car, when I can haul a tad more than half of what you can, something just seems off with the math.

I'll shut up though. My input to the OP asking how much he should be making is obviously invalid due to Mr. Billy Big Rig over here thinks I was talking to him personally.

I guess I wrongly assumed you had read the whole thread where someone asked me about this because my carrier was claiming this. I explained to him why the average wasn’t realistic wages for hard runners. The point of some of this forum is for different perspectives of similar activities to be discussed so people may better understand other’s opportunities. Doesn’t make your way or my way better, they are both different ways to do something.

I guess I'm a looser. I only gross around $270k and walk away with $140k and my dumb ### has to work 42 weeks. Power only and home every other night.

Supply of carhaulers is currently low and demand for them is currently high. Who knows how long that will last, but I am not giving up my regular gig and go chasing after it.

I'm not buying that I say impossible on a annual basis even at top rates. Who consistently runs 3000 loaded miles a week at $6.80 a mile all year.

Talk to a few people hauling overflow out of Ft Wayne currently. I don’t haul it either because I don’t want to give up my regular long term contract freight, but the money is there for some and it is $10-$12 on over 1,000 mile trips. It definitely won’t last forever, but some are getting all they want currently.
