For such an expensive truck/engine, I don't understand why they don't put a low oil sensor in sensor that delivers a message to the dashboard.

99% of trucks on the road don't have an oil level sensor and maybe about half have a coolant level sensor.

    Labrador Thanks this.

Most big engine dipsticks generally have a range of a gallon between add/low mark and full mark. So if not on stick…..

I don't want to get this wrong, but I add oil at the front left bottom side of the engine correct? I found the location of Saturday but the cap is not labeled. It has about a 2" opening, I would hate to add oil to the wrong place.

    Probably.
Open the cap, smell it, look inside.
You should be able to tell.

If you'only' drove it for a few days; you should have checked it on day one.

Every day is best, you will see some consumption over time and catch any sudden and possibly engine damaging leaks.

Sometimes a series of fleet trucks will have similar consumption.

Old R model Macks were famous for blowing the top few quarts out the breather [way before emissions on diesels] every day.

The fuel person soon learned to leave the oil level half way between the marks to avoid the drivers who were fed up with smelling it.

Every truck in the barn would not need much oil if left a touch low and the drivers were not smelling it every day and everyone was happy.

I added 1 gallon of oil and the oil pressure went up to where I thought it should be. Going to check again tomorrow, it might need 2 gallons who knows. Anyone know of a place to get the owners manual for this truck? I need to know the meaning of the dashboard symbols. It is I think this one is a 2014 or 2015, might be a 389, peterbilt mixer truck. It is showing the ABS which I know is anti lock brakes, but also a picture of an engine and I am not sure what that is. I might have been losing some power today while driving it when it was displaying the engine icon, then the icon would disappear and I think the power would come back. I have not driven this truck enough to know it well.

If oil pressure went up because you added oil you were out of oil! Not good.
Check oil, if low add oil. Give it a minute to get in the pan and then check oil again. Repeat as necessary. Most large trucks hold 10 gallons. So if it's way low on the stick it may take a few gallons. But I dont know what engine you have.
