35 years driving truck.
Love how nice the newer trucks drive and ride.
Not how over regulated its become.
I for one like elogs.
Truckers need to clean up, and act more civilized.
I miss Cat engines.
Glad to see more women drivers.
If I could do it all over, would change a few things, but not many.
I hate sleepers, i mean hate.
Give me a day cab, and hotel room, 2 showers a day, and a real bed.Last edited: Oct 5, 2022

Got my CDL in 2004. Driving career was on shaky ground between 2006 and 2010. But have been driving tankers full time now since 2012.
Not an old head by any means. But while I'm alright with environmental concerns(emissions controls on trucks), the crazy amount of comfort and anti crash gimmicks are getting on my nerves like everyone else it seems. Couple that with diminishing signs of gratitude(no one seems to "on/off" their markers any more when you "on/off" your head lights in a passing movement), and the road has become a miserable place for all.
As an older millennial, I'm also part of that camp that sees "retirement" as a myth. If anything, do this until I get some things paid off. Transition back to strictly local and try to get into a position to where I could one day make the delivery of goods and transport in general less of a headache(either become a pro-truck/pro-mass transit lobbyist, or finally get an engineering degree at 50 or 60 and be that old fart that's not very liked at a young firm, lol).
As to the OP question, the true old heads of the 70s and 80s are still out there. Either managing to long retire while they still could. Or still ekeing out an existence while hopefully doing a less strenuous form of trucking. I know there's quite a few where I'm at. Some are insufferable. Others are quite approachable and even gregarious themselves.MartinFromBC Thanks this.
